Mike Strange (Owner)
Mike grew up in Seattle and graduated from the University of Washington. He worked for the US Forest Service as a Forester for 25 years in Washington and Oregon. After retiring in 1993 Mike bought a small gym in McMinnville, Or. Three years later he closed that gym and reopened in a new location as a Gold’s Gym. Three years later he opened a second Gold’s Gym in another town, before selling out in 2004. Mike moved to Sierra Vista in 2005 and established Summit Fitness.
Janet Strange (Account Manager and Kids Room Manager)
Janet met Mike at the University of Washington in 1965, where she later graduated with a BS in Nursing. Working as a nurse in many positions, she spent the last 20 years as a nursing supervisor. Now retired, Janet has been helping Mike since they bought their first gym in 1993. Janet is the Bookkeeper and manages all members accounts. She also volunteers at Ramsey Canyon.
Tony Rivera (Sales and Facility Manager)
Tony graduated from San Diego State with a BS degree in Kinisiology with emphasis in Fitness, Nutrition, and Health. He holds personal training certificates from NSCA and ACE and has worked many years in the fitness field in California and Arizona. Tony also has considerable experience in automobile sales. Tony has been with Summit Fitness since 2006. Tony and wife Martha have 2 children.
Vannessa Schlaegel (Group Fitness Manager)
Vanessa spent most of her childhood in Sierra Vista, but did move away long enough to meet Chuck, marry Chuck, and then have the Army move them back to Sierra Vista in 1995. Vanessa started at Summit Fitness as a member in 2007, and finally found her calling as a Group Fitness Instructor in 2011. She has been GFM since 2012. She is excited about helping people discover new ways to enjoy exercise and make it a lifestyle for the whole family. Currently certified in Group Kick, Group Step, and Group Power, she plans to learn more so she can help our GX program improve. Vanessa and Chuck have 5 beautiful daughters and 4 grand children.
Leslie Garnsey (Personal Trainer)
Leslie Garnsey is an ACE Certified Personal Trainer and Group Ride Instructor. She is the owner of Sierra Vista Running, a non-competitive running fitness program that specializes in all levels of running, from beginner run/walk 5K training to half marathon training. She actively participated in basketball and track at the college level. Her desire to see other parts of the world led her to the Army, where she served as Telecommunication Center Operator for 7 years. She received her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Management from the University of Maryland while stationed in the Netherlands.
Leslie raised 4 children and worked as an office manager in Tucson for many years. Her love for coaching began as an assistant in her daughter’s cross country and track programs. She loves running and cycling.

HEIDI REEVES (PERSONAL TRAINER)
Heidi Reeves is a certified personal trainer with the American College of Sports Medicine since 2009. She also became a massage therapist in 2005. Heidi has taken several college level science courses including anatomy and physiology in pursuit of a nutrition degree. Heidi has always had an interest in athleticism and fitness, being a gymnast and tennis player in the past. As an avid weightlifter and circuit trainer, Heidi enjoys educating others on the numerous health benefits of strength and cardiovascular training, functional movement and flexibility, as well as a nutritious diet to encourage maximum results for efforts expanded. She has experience with a wide variety of training techniques and individuals from weight loss or bulking to improved balance and/or range of motion. She is able to tailor an exercise program to fit the goals and abilities of various participants.
David Gunckel (Personal Trainer)
David believes that physical fitness can be improved upon at any stage of life. As a personal trainer certified by the National Academy of Sports Medicine, David is eager to help people of all ages and abilities, improve strength, flexibility, core, and cardiovascular fitness so that life can be enjoyed to the fullest. David is former competitive bodybuilder, winning first place in the Copper Classic open middleweight and master’s categories in 2004 and 2005. David served as Director of Library Services for the City of Sierra Vista for over 27 years. He holds a B.A. in Elementary Education and Masters of Library Science degrees from the University of Arizona.
Daniel Orallo (Personal Trainer)
Daniel Orallo has a deep passion for health and fitness that stems from having experienced an unhealthy lifestyle firsthand. Even before earning his personal trainer certification through NASM, Daniel has made it a central part of his life to learn more about how to get healthier and stronger, through exercise as well as nutrition. He is currently progressing toward his Associate of Arts degree in Exercise Science, and looks to pursue a B.S. in Kinesiology. In the near future, Daniel wants to take part in competitive bodybuilding in the Men’s Physique division, and eventually earn his IFBB Pro Card. Daniel enjoys not only training hard in the gym, but also understanding the “why” and the “how” of all kinds of exercises and techniques. He also enjoys helping others understand more about fitness and nutrition, and if he hasn’t found the answer about something, he’ll make it a point to find out!
